ImageJ. Scott Buchanan, D.P.A. , CFRE, is a founding partner of interNational Advancement Counsel (interNAC). Scott has 23 years experience as a nonprofit management and funds development consultant and advisor in constituent and public relations.

He attributes his well-honed writing and communications skills to his background as a journalist and public relations and advertising executive. Amplifying these skills, his entrepreneurial spirit is a perfect match for organizations looking for creative solutions to stubborn challenges.

With a concentration of clients in Texas and the Southwest, Scott is particularly effective in conducting feasibility studies and directing capital campaigns. He is frequently sought for governance and development assessments and provides consultation on matters of board and executive leadership.

A colleague said of Scott that he has “an internal moral compass” that guides him in his relationships with his clients and in his advice to his clients about their relationships to their constituents. Scott believes that the essence of a productive client relationship is complete honesty, integrity, and reasonable expectations.

Scott served as Assistant President and Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Austin College before starting his consulting practice. He is a Past President of the Dallas Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, a member and former officer of the Association of Philanthropic Counsel, and a member of the National Committee on Planned Giving.

Scott has held numerous positions of leadership in church, cultural, and service organizations. He is a Past President of the Sherman (TX) Rotary Club and an Elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

He holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Texas , a M.S. in Student Personnel and Guidance from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and M.P.A and D.P.A degrees in Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University . Scott is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences including International Conferences of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Family and travel are Scott’s “great fun and passions.” He and his wife have an extensive travel résumé that encompasses 40 countries. An avid, lifelong tennis player, Scott strives to be on the courts at least twice a week.
